Desh Universal has developed a new web application called digiTax to further simplify the submission of tax returns. Md Alamgir Hossain, member (tax policy) of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), inaugurated the application on Saturday.
Emphasizing the main features of digiTax, Syeda Nusrat Haider, member of his team, said: âMany taxpayers at different levels in the country do not know how to calculate income tax correctly. As a result, they often cannot file their returns correctly.
“In order to solve this problem, we have developed a new system whereby users can submit their feedback with ease and comfort by providing information as needed.”
She mentioned that their system includes an automated calculation system in accordance with the law through which they would be able to prepare their tax returns. Taxpayers will be able to use this software in Bengali as well as in English.
Using digiTax, taxpayers can file their returns via an automated method at the relevant income tax offices, she noted, adding that taxpayers can also use the services of digiTax’s professional lawyers to submit their tax returns. .
Regarding the security of taxpayer personal information, Nusrat said that each taxpayer would have their personal username and password, while none, except affected taxpayers, would have access to them. Users could save their personal information and change it at any time by logging into their username, she added.
Nusrat said the government has already taken various initiatives to bring more of the population under the tax net. “In line with these government initiatives, we have been trying for a long time to work with the government. As a continuation, we have developed this software and our aim is to work with the government in an integrated way.”
Nusrat also mentioned that tax lawyers would also be able to provide services to their clients through digiTax.
After inaugurating the software, NBR member Alamgir Hossain said that there is growing interest among taxpayers to pay income tax as the number of taxpayers is also increasing day by day.
“It is not possible to provide services to a large number of taxpayers under the existing system. There is no alternative to bringing all tax services online and automating the system. submission of income tax returns. “
Given the need of the hour, the NBR has introduced an online tax payment system, he said, adding that the private sector Desh Universal initiative would further simplify the progress towards the digitization of related services. to taxation.
The inauguration ceremony of digiTax, held on Saturday at the auditorium of the Forum of Economic Reporters (ERF) in the Paltan region, in the capital, also brought together, among others, Mahmudul HasanKhusru, president of the Institute Bangladesh Chartered Accountants (ICAB); AKM Azizur Rahman, President of the Dhaka Tax Bar Association; Khaled Mahmud Sujon, director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB); Golam Shahriar Ronju, director of digiTax; and SM Rashidul Islam, secretary general of the ERF.
