The Navarro College Board of Trustees has approved the 2022 budget year ad valorem tax rate of $ 0.1164 per $ 100 of tax assessment. The proposed rate is the same as last year. The trustees approved by a required voice vote the measure which is in fact a tax increase of 2.016% due to the increase in the appraised value of properties, passed unanimously.

There was a public hearing regarding the tax rate prior to the September 30 regular meeting in the Bulldog boardroom on the Corsicana campus. No member of the public attended the hearing.

Trustees heard an enrollment report from Sina Ruiz, vice president of enrollment management and institutional efficiency, who said that according to certified data from the student census completed on September 7. first screenings.

The data shows the college is meeting new student attendance goals, with gaps due to lack of student retention and persistence.

Fall data is not yet official, but shows similar trends appear to be spreading across state institutions. Students seem to prefer face-to-face teaching. Registration for the 8-week Fall Second Semester courses will continue until October 15, with those courses starting October 18.

Navarro College District President Dr Kevin Fegan said only 40% of the cumulative number of high school students in the five counties served by Navarro College did not attend a technical school or an institution of two or four. years.

“This pool of potential students is an opportunity for us,” he said.

Trustees have received a report regarding the progress of the Bachelor of Nursing program which will hopefully be offered after final approval from the various state accreditation bodies. Guy Featherston, Dean of the Midlothian Campus and the Health Professions, said the process is going as planned and reports are being presented, and he’s hearing good things about a potential approval at the end of the process .

The target start date for the program is the fall semester 2023, with the first graduation taking place in August 2024.
