PUNE The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Wednesday opposed plans by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to enter into loan agreements for a planned cancer hospital and the riverfront development project.

The NCP believes that these loans, taken during the last stage of the ruling BJP’s mandate before the elections, will weigh financially on the PMC

NCP City Leader Prashant Jagtap said, “At the end of BJP’s tenure, the leadership is taking various decisions that will push the company towards bankruptcy. There is no need to take out a loan for Baner Cancer Hospital. If the contractor defaults, the onus will be on the PMC. »

Jagtap added, “Even the waterfront development project is fake. There is enough pollution from Khadakwasla to Pune city, but instead of cleaning it up, PMC takes care of riverside development between Sangam Bridge and Bund Garden. We are filing a complaint with the anti-corruption office and asking them to check the phone calls of the office members before approving these proposals.

The BJP, however, refuted the NCP claims. Standing committee chairman Hemant Rasane said earlier: “We are committed to building a cancer hospital modeled on the Tata Memorial Hospital. There are more and more cancer patients and the poor cannot afford the treatment. PMC is doing this project on PPP model and it would be helpful for the people of western Maharashtra. The PMC would also derive revenue from this project.

The NCP accused the BJP of agreeing to various proposals that put financial pressure on the municipal corporation. If this continues, the PMC would have no money to carry out road maintenance works in the future, the NCP alleged.
